Get a Taste For Nutrition
I deliver nutrition presentations to elementary school and intermediate students as a way to increase nutrition and agricultural awareness. Duties include organizing age-appropriate presentations, purchasing and gathering materials, coordinating with school administers, and engaging with students. I did this all throughout high school and am continuing to do this as my college schedule permits. I am happy to volunteer my time in this way because I know my hard work and determination will build healthier school campuses for years to come. Through my volunteer effort, I have anchored a team that includes my HART (Health Ambassador for a Ready Texas) advisor Rachelle Darby and other school staff members. I have also provided valuable feedback that TDA will use in the administration of nutrition programs. Most importantly, I have helped my peers and those younger than me get excited about school meals, Texas agriculture, and good nutrition. It is such an honor to be a champion for building a healthier future for the Lone Star State through advocating for agriculture and healthy eating.

Teaching young kids is such a blessing. I hope my efforts will inspire youth to pursue holistic wellness for years to come.
"Health is a resource for everyday life, not the objective of living." ~ World Health Organization
This is the message of freedom I aspire to preach throughout my entire career!
In January 2023, my sister and I delivered 9 total presentations to grades ranging from kindergarten to 3rd grade!

January 2024
Breanna and I completed our third consecutive year of delivering nutrition presentations during our Christmas break from college.
We delivered our nutrition presentation to 4 fourth grade classes, and 4 fifth grade classes. The kids welcomed the information with an excited and curious attitude. Since we have visited the school every year, many of the students recognized us as the “Nutrition girls” and were eager to listen to our presentation. Many of the students commented that much of the information we presented was only familiar to them due to our past presentations. It’s an honor to teach children about good nutrition. I sincerely hope that the information we present will help them begin to make healthy choices and give them a strong foundation on which they can build the rest of their lives.
I definitely believe that a Health/Nutrition course should be a part of the required curriculum for students starting in grade school. If children can learn to fuel themselves properly and have a healthy relationship with food at a young age, they will be spared much of the physical and mental repercussions that can come from an unhealthy diet, under or over-fueling, eating disorders, etc.
In the future, it is my goal to help schools offer more health/nutrition courses/electives so that youth will be equipped to fuel themselves, properly deal with body image struggles, and soundly navigate the health information they hear of in the media.
I know that my nutrition degree, registered dietitian credential, and psychology minor will be very helpful in helping me achieve my goals.
I love presenting to the younger generation because of many of the children's untainted view of health/wellness. I wish more of society had their child-like perspective that is free of food fear, bias, and food rules. They inspire me in my own health/wellness journey.
